This post ,about a family's ER and hospital experience, made me thankful that I live and work in America.

Glossary

abd - abdomen
AP - anterior/posterior i.e. front to back
Cath - catheter
CR - computed radiography, digital capture of rad images
CT - computed tomography
CXR - chest x-ray
Dept - department
Dr - doctor
ETOH - drunk/alcohol
LAT - lateral i.e. side
Med-eo - person who works in health care, with direct pt contact
PA - posterior/anterior i.e. back to front
PACS - picture archiving and communication systems
pigg-o-stat - device used to restrain infants
port - portable xray done outside the dept.
port mach - portable x-ray machine used to take x-ray outside dept.
Pt or Pts - patient or patients
rad - anything having to do with radiology
Rad - radiologist, doctor that reads x-rays
rad tech - radiologic technologist
US - ultrasound
