Wages ?

I need your help!
I'm filling out a job application.
This question has me stumped:
Wages expected:______
?
?
Do I put in what my wages are right now?
or
Put in a lower wage?
or
Write present wage or negotiable?
?
I don't want to look greedy or out price myself, but
I also don't want to look desperate and under price myself.
Please help!
If you have an opinion or advice please leave me a comment.

I'd just go with negotiable in that field. That is a dumb question. If you need to go with an actual number, look at your reasoning for leaving your current position. If you are moving into a better paying modality, then do a little research on the pay scale for that modality. If you are doing a job in similar modalities to what you are doing now, go ahead a put a couple few dollars more than what you are making now. It doesn't hurt to ask for a little more but going like 10 bucks an hour more than what is average would probably take you out of the running. Good luck with the new job hunt!

Well, for what it's worth, as an employer, when I ask for salary expectations what I usually expect people to put is the top end of the salary scale they want. In other words, more than they are getting now and a bit more than they would actually expect to get - a sort of starting point for negotioations slightly downward. Does that make sense? Hope that helps!

I hate that question. It is an attempt to make you commit yourself to a figure..I always leave the thing blank.

Thanks for all the help!
I decided to write negotiable, because I'm competing with new grads and my wages are already near the top of the pay scale.
I have 5 years experience and work 4 modalities.
But the job is closer to my house, so I would be willing to take a pay cut.
